When we take our guests on a (gastronomic) tour around the island, our main focus is to show them the amazing local cuisine, to treat them to real, feels-like-home, Mediterranean, Dalmatian and Brač food!
This is why we cooperate with a selected few of island’s best restaurants, where food is prepared as if prepared for family, where local produce is used (and sometimes even grown!), where we know you will ask for seconds 😉
So, let us introduce you to some of our favorite venues. Today, explore – Gažul.
Gažul, a quaint village estate on the hill of Brač, is a captivating slice of history and tradition.
Two centuries ago, four brothers from the Gospodnetić family embarked on a remarkable endeavor, constructing couple of stone houses using old quarry blocks, carefully transported with the aid of their donkeys to an altitude of 580 meters. These houses initially served as resting spots for shepherds and gatherings for family and friends during the summer, where they savored local wine and lamb.
The best food, best hospitality and quaint homey place to to stop and eat. It’s a must! — Margaret Paternostro
The estate’s legacy was revived two decades ago when the Gospodnetić family renovated Gažul, turning it into a renowned hub for lamb dishes, drawing from Brač’s extensive sheep farming heritage. The village estate is now a cherished destination, celebrated for its mouthwatering lamb, homemade prosciutto, cheese, and the unique vitalac dish. This dish is a true culinary gem of Brač.

At Gažul village estate, there’s one star ingredient: lamb. Every dish is crafted around this centerpiece, showcasing a variety of culinary techniques to create several different dishes from this single ingredient. The eternal classic is grilled lamb, with up to 16 lambs roasting on spits at once. No part of the lamb is wasted; the offal is used to make vitalac, a dish once considered food for the poor but now revered as an authentic Brač specialty.
In addition to vitalac, they offer lamb tripe, lamb under the bell (peka), boiled lamb, lamb risotto, and more. The secret to these excellent dishes lies in the method of preparation, transforming one ingredient into an array of delectable meals.
